Drones in Canada
Drones have moved from specialist military and research tools to affordable aircraft anyone can buy — and Canadians have adopted them enthusiastically for photography, inspection, agriculture, surveying and recreation. Since 2019, Transport Canada has required registration for every RPAS between 250 g and 25 kg, and a pilot certificate for the person flying it.
As the rules keep evolving — BVLOS, medium and large aircraft, new airspace services — we advocate for evidence-based regulation that keeps Canadian skies safe without putting practical, responsible drone use out of reach.
A not-for-profit, run by volunteers
The association is a straightforward not-for-profit: a volunteer president, a small steering committee and no paid staff. We aim for a committee that reflects the community it serves — balanced across regions of Canada, recreational and commercial flying, professional aviation backgrounds and gender.
